June Rally news!

The warmer weather has finally come and rally action is heating up along with it with all kinds of events and activities for the rally enthusiast this summer!

On Sunday 6 teams gathered for a Test and Tune event organized by the Bluenose Autosport Club. With a 2.77 kilometre stage run in both directions teams were provided the chance to bring the cars out of hibernation, shake out the cobwebs and try out new equipment, settings and techniques before next months Ledwidge Lookoff Rally!

Photos by Harold Merklinger have been posted here and here’s a taste of one of the stages:

Coming up next weekend, June 12th is the annual BAC Bluenose Navigational Rally. Starting and ending in Windsor, Nova Scotia, this is a fun event for any road-going vehicle and teams of all skill levels from first timers to experienced timing veterans!

In other news, local competitor Mal Swann and co-driver Martin Cadieux head back once again to Quebec this weekend for Rally Saguenay! Rumor also has it that several local teams will be competing at this year’s Rallye Baie des Chaleurs in July! Good luck, guys!

A quiet spring before the rally rumble!

_7d27345Its been a quiet spring since the final RallyCross of the season took place in late March, but that doesn’t mean the rally community is asleep! Cars are coming out of storage, parts are being bought and installed, plans are being made and, most importantly, our teams of dedicated organizers are preparing a great calendar of rally events for the summer months!

Starting on June 12th the traditional BAC Bluenose TSD Rally will take place, starting and ending in Windsor, NS. Stay tuned for details! Also in Navigational Rally, the epic Run the Rock event returns to Newfoundland on July 1st! As much an event as it is a rally! Check it out if you can!

On the performance front the Bluenose Autosport Club will be holding its Performance Rally Championship again for 2016 with a 3 event calendar starting with the big one, the Ledwidge Lookoff Rally. The marquee event of the season moves up a month this year to July 23rd/24th in order to better position the event for out of region competitors. Combined with our steadily growing roster of local cars we should have a stellar event for competitors, spectators and volunteers alike in 2016! Whether you’re in a car or helping out on the sidelines you won’t want to miss this one!

Swapping places with the big event, the Laffin Lake RallySprint returns on August 27th with the now traditional Trout Lake RallySprint rounding out the calendar on October 16th which ties us right back into the start of the 2016-2017 BAC RallyCross Championship! There’s tons of fun to be had going sideways!

In other news local competitor Malcolm Swann once again attacked the stage roads of Quebec, this time with the Tarmac stages of the Rallye de Sanair along side co-driver Martin Cadieux, bringing home a third place in 2WD! Congrats guys on doing our region proud!

Stay tuned here and on Facebook for info and up to date event details all summer long! Rally Rally Rally!

Bedtime reading for budding Rally Co-Drivers!

We hope everyone had a lot of fun getting a taste of stage rally yesterday and at the classroom session Saturday night. I hear it went super well and there was a wealth of experience available to you.

If you want to do some further reading on the subject of co-driving I have a couple of suggestions for you…

First is A Guide to Rally Co-Driving in North America by Mark Williams. Mark is a legendary Canadian co-driver who you can now literally say has written the book on co-driving. Some of you may have met Mark here last August at the Lookoff Rally as he visited our humble event with his EZ Trak car tracking and safety system. He really knows his stuff and this book covers off all the topics you were shown Saturday in detail plus a bunch more. You can find more information and buy a copy at http://www.rallycodriver.com/

Another option is from another super experienced co-driver, Dave Shindle who has written up ‘Modern North American Performance Rally Co-Driving’. This downloadable book covers a lot of the same topics as Mark’s but I find the two compliment each other well. They describe and illustrate some things differently so when you’re scratching your head based on one book the other’s desciription will usually fill in the blanks. You can find more information about Dave’s book on the Special Stage Forum post here.

And you can contact him to order at DCRallyDave@yahoo.com.

With either one or both of these books you should have everything you need to jump in the right seat and start learning your craft!

The 2015-2016 BAC RallyCross series wraps up for the season!

Another season of RallyCross is on the books with an epic final event at the Conrad Brother’s quarry in Dartmouth, NS. Over 50 participants attended Saturday night’s Co-Drivers seminar and 43 driver/co-driver teams made the start Sunday morning on the awesome gravel quarry surfaces! While only stage times were scored, eight stages linked by timed transits gave teams a taste of rally operations and providing valuable rally experience to try out the lessons learned Saturday night.

Also new to BAC RallyCross, results were entered live on the RallyScoring.com site! Full stage by stage results and details can be found on their site by clicking here. Full season standings and more event photos will be available soon!

While this is the end of the 2015-2016 RallyCross season its far from the end of rally for the year! We have a full calendar of TSD and Stage Rally events throughout the summer for everyone to compete and volunteer at! Stay tuned for details and hope to see everyone for the 2016-2017 RallyCross season this fall! Rally Rally Rally!
